Since 1726 Palazzo Chigi Zondadari, with its Roman Baroque architectural lines, has become a landmark in the marvellous scenery of the centre of Siena.
A place where past, present and future meet, it is possible to admire the rooms on the piano nobile with their walls covered in corami (or hand-painted leather), frescoed by the likes of Marco Benefial, Placido Costanzi and Giuseppe Colignon, and furnished in neoclassical style by Agostino Fantastici. Also not to be missed is the extremely rich Chigi Zondadari collection, which includes masterpieces such as the portrait bust of Alexander VII Chigi by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
CORTEMPORANEA is an explicit play on words combining court with contemporary. Indeed, the project transforms the courtyard of the historic building into an exhibition space dedicated to site-specific works by Italian and international artists called upon by Flavio Misciattelli, president of the Fondazione Palazzo Chigi Zondadari, to freely interpret the space.
Contemporary art eludes any precise definition. Free from rules and canons it develops in a timeless dimension, where past, present and future intertwine in a continuous creative dialogue.
With CORTEMPORANEA the palace becomes the stage for this stimulating dialogue, welcoming a different artist each year to interact with its court.
We provide the inner courtyard of the palace to organise customised events for both companies and individuals.
